Laser Acne Treatment
If you’ve battled acne and aren’t seeing the results you want, there could be a good reason for this. Some treatment options don’t always work and the reason is because your skin can become resistant to over the counter medicines used to treat acne.
In the same way, taking oral and topical antibiotics can cause the bacteria in acne to become antibiotic resistant. As a result of that, you can develop hard to treat acne and sometimes the battle for smooth, healthy looking skin can seem overwhelming.
But fortunately, you don’t have to fight this battle on your own. If you’ve tried other methods and aren’t satisfied - or if you’d prefer to skip other treatments because you don’t want to wait the amount of time it takes other methods to work, you can opt for laser acne treatment.
This type of treatment is an easy way to get rid of unsightly breakouts in the least amount of time. There are different types of laser acne treatments and your dermatologist or doctor can recommend which option would be best for you.
You can also be treated at a medical spa. The lasers work by destroying the bacteria that causes acne and lessening the oil production of the glands. The lasers can have different lights and pulses that are used to treat the acne. They work on various wavelengths and have different classifications. Certain types of lasers work better with keloid scarring than others do.
For example, with acne that’s caused some scarring that needs to be removed, focal laser abrasion can be used. With this skin abrasion treatment, a CO2 laser is used, which is a continuous wave carbon dioxide laser.
The super pulsed CO2 is a laser that works to resurface damaged skin. Some of the other lasers that can treat acne are the fractional laser as well as the pulsed dye laser, depending on the type of acne treatment needed.
The benefit of using the laser acne treatment (besides the fact that you can experience clearer skin, faster) is that the healing time with this treatment is minimal. Because the laser seals off blood vessels as it removes the scars, there’s a smaller risk of blood loss as well as infection than there is with traditional surgical removal.
Laser resurfacing is the most expensive method. With this type of laser treatment, while it does cause new skin cells to grow (which gets rid of the scarring), the time it takes to heal from the procedure is just shy of a month.
