Riding the Coattails of Success

It’s crazy, but many people think they have to go it alone in business. Part of the reason is probably because it’s so much easier to start a business these days, especially when you’re talking about a digital or web based business.

There are very few barriers to entry. There are even many businesses that can be started for $0. It’s easy to think you don’t need help. And, some people have become very successful by completely carving their own path.

But, it’s so much easier when you’re following the path of what’s already successful and studying the habits of those who are already successful.

Many successful people are very open about the things that have and haven’t worked for them. That’s great news for you! You can achieve your goals much more quickly if you simply follow the direction of those who’ve come before you.

It might be even easier for you if you hire a coach or a mentor. It helps to have someone give you a new perspective and to share what they think will work for you.

Paying someone can also boost your motivation. If you’re spending $0 on your business and going it alone, you might be tempted to jump to the next thing and never follow through.

If you invest in your business and find someone great who can help you, you will be much more likely to focus, develop positive business habits, and start earning or boost your earnings much more quickly.

I urge you to find a way to become motivated by those who are a step or more ahead of you. I think you’ll see some fantastic rewards if you choose to work with a coach, mentor, accountability partner, or similar.

If you want to start off the right way or start yourself on a whole new path in business, this is one of the best ways to do it. Other people can help you develop new, better habits, much more quickly.

Imitate the Life You Want To Have

You’ve probably heard the advice before that you should dress for the position and level of success you want to have. So maybe you’re just starting out or you aren’t at the level you want to be at, but mentally, you should act like you are.

I’m not telling you to try to be something you’re not. Don’t falsify your success or anything like that. What I do recommend is dressing for success— with your outside and your mindset.

Even if you work from home, get up and get dressed every day. Yeah, it might be a dream to get to work from home in your pajamas and that’s fine if that works for you.

Or, you might find that it helps your mindset to dress for business even if you do work from home. On the other hand, if you feel empowered because you’re ‘getting away with something’ by not dressing for business, then do that.

I could work strictly from home if I wanted to, but I choose to have an office outside of my home because that’s how I work best. It’s a mindset thing and a professionalism thing.

Now, that’s what’s right for me. It might not be what’s right for you. You have to figure that out. Try different things and see what helps you be as productive as you can be.

What kind of life do you want to have? Do you want to be able to work anywhere, eventually traveling all around the world, working from the beach if you want to? Do you need or want to impress clients?

Think about how the people you admire live. Do they work from the couch in their pajamas or do they get up and go to their own office and dress for success every day? There isn’t a correct answer, although people do say you should dress for the position you want to have in life— it’s the life you want to live.

Do the people you admire travel a lot and go to conferences whenever they want? Do what you can to imitate that lifestyle as best as you can on the level you’re on right now.

Mostly, this is about mindset. Put yourself in the mindset that it’s absolutely inevitable that you’ll reach the level you want. Start living that lifestyle right now, if only in your mind.
